Jonathan left school with a boning desire to be a professional actor. He auditioned for theRoyal Academy of Dramatic Art and was accepted as part of an intake of fourteen men and seven women from a total of 2, 500 applicants. He left in 1972 with a diploma and the Emele Littler Award for Best Comedy Performances by a final year student. A fact which you may find somewhat baffling after hearing his presentation today. He worked regularly in theatre, television and radio including two years at The National Theatre but eventually the burden of school fees and a mortgage proved too much and he joined Save and Prosper as a sales associate in 1981. He advised the companies client on all aspects of financial planning.
In 1986, he was recruited to help found Waverly Fund Management – An Independent Financial Planning Practice based inEdinburgh . He specialised in dealing with ex patriot clients, most of whom were based inBermuda . He was appointed Managing Director in 1989.
In 1990 he set up his own Financial Planning Practice concentrating on Providing Comprehensive Financial Planning for a small number of clients from his office deep in the heart of the Scottish Countryside.
He is a member of the Institute of Financial Planning and in 1996 he was a member of a four man Scottish team which won the Annual Financial Planning Team Challenge, fending off competition from some twenty other teams from around the UK . The prize was an all expenses paid trip to the Financial Planning Association Conference in Minneapolis .
He has been a member of the LIA for many years. The LIA is the leading association for Financial Services Professionals in the UK and has approximately 22 thousand members. Jonathan was appointed President of the LIA for the year 2003/2004.
He is also a regular speaker on the international conference circuit. In 2003 he will speak at two conferences in South Africa , as well as in India, Ireland and the United States .
