Devaan Cooray is a great motivator and a powerful speaker who has traveled across five continents addressing vast and mixed audiences in topics related to marketing of Life Insurance. He has addressed the Life Insurance Round Table of India for seven consecutive years 1998 – 2004, and the Life Underwriters Guild of INDIA, thrice. He is a fellow of the Life Underwriters Training Council U.S.A., and has qualified as a Charted Insurance Agency Manager from LIMRA. The greatest moment of his speaking career was, when he addressed the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Conference in USA in June 2009. He is the first South Asian non member to have addressed the MDRT.

He started his career in the Sri Lanka Air Force as a Commissioned Officer.  Joining Ceylinco Insurance Company at its inception in 1987 was entrusted the task of setting up the agency force of this new company. Ceylinco is the leading Life Insurer in Sri Lanka since 2004. Devaan was invited to join the Board of Directors of the Company in 2001, as an Executive Director.
